Millburn, New Jersey

Set along a curve on a steeply rising road, the owners wanted to create a dramatic street presence that would complement their distinctive 1960’s ranch home. Having lost mature pines during Hurricane Sandy, the project required extensive re-grading, re-planting, and all new hardscaping and softscaping. The design approach focused on the sequence of day and night views from the sweeping street curve. Playing off existing ornamental trees and grasses and stone walls, the new garden includes all-season grasses, new ornamental trees, and blue, purple, red and silver bulbs and perennials to add color from spring through fall. Exterior path, house, and tree lighting create a dramatic night presence. SNL also consulted on natural stone re-facing of the house, a new bluestone entry platform and pillars, exterior lighting and signage.
